If patient consents, the progress of a wound, can be demonstrated and supported by wound photo documentation.
Simple clinical photography during wound care requires a camera and single-use wound-measuring rulers. There are even wound care apps available to measure wound area, wound surface and wound depth.
To consider with photo documentation:
- Good lighting and definition are vital for clear images.
- Ensure that the patient’s identity cannot be revealed.
- Always photograph wounds from the same angle and distance. This will help you when you or your colleagues compare images taken at different times.
- Place the wound measuring ruler or paper tape measure alongside the wound and measure its width and length. Wound Probes can also be used with care to measure wound depth.
