When wound exudate is a problem

For the patient, the treatment, and everyday practice

Most wounds heal better when they are in the right condition. But sometimes it is not the wound itself that is the main challenge; it is the exudate.

Do you recognise these challenges?

  • Dressings that become saturated and start to leak very quickly
  • Skin around the wound that becomes macerated
  • Dressing changes that need to be done very often

In those situations, you need a solution that is easy to use and reliable.

"The wound needs to be clean. It should be moist, not wet, and the surrounding skin should be kept as healthy as possible."
Ann-Mari Fagerdahl, Lecturer/Nurse, Wound Centre, Södersjukhuset

DryMax Super: A dressing for managing wound exudate

DryMax Super is a superabsorbent dressing suitable for all types of exuding wounds, including venous and arterial leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, and lymphoedema.

It can be used as a primary dressing directly on the wound or as a secondary dressing with other wound care products. If you choose to use another product closest to the wound, pay close attention to how it works. It must allow fluid to pass through to the dressing behind it, while not becoming so wet that it macerates the surrounding skin.

DryMax Super needs to do its job – managing wound exudate.

A wound heals best when it is moist, but not overly wet.

How the superabsorbent dressing works in practice

DryMax Soft has been developed to make it easier to manage exuding wounds. We know that treating wounds with high exudate levels can be challenging in everyday practice. That is why we developed DryMax Super to simplify management and provide the wound with better conditions for healing.

The dressing:

  • Absorbs exudate from the wound surface
  • Moves it away from the wound surface
  • Locks it inside the dressing

A superabsorbent dressing, DryMax Super, absorbs wound exudate.

This means the fluid is retained in the dressing rather than affecting the skin around the wound, while the dressing also helps create a favourable environment for wound healing.

What does it mean in your daily practice?

When exudate is managed reliably, several things often happen:

  • The skin around the wound remains in better condition
  • The risk of leakage is lower
  • The need for frequent dressing changes may reduce

It creates a more stable situation for you and the patient.

When simplicity becomes valuable

In an already pressured everyday clinical life, simple solutions can be what makes the biggest difference.

DryMax Super:

  • is double-sided – either side can be placed against the wound, so you don’t need to worry about which side is up or down
  • is thin, soft and flexible, making it easy to use on, for example, legs and other outer parts of the body
  • can be used together with compression therapy

It’s not always the most advanced solution that makes the biggest difference. Often, it’s the simple, reliable and easy-to-use options that help the most in everyday practice.

The patient’s perspective

A clinician with a patient, wound management.

For the patient, it is often something quite simple:

  • avoiding leakage
  • being able to live a more active, social life
  • having a dressing that feels dry and comfortable

Small things that, together, make a big difference in everyday practice.

Practical tips

When you receive your DryMax Super sample, please keep in mind that:

  1. When testing the dressing, we recommend using it for at least 3 dressing changes on the same wound. If possible, take a photo of the wound each time to make it easier to track its progression.
  2. Secure the dressing with a bandage, film or tape. If you use tape, remember that sensitive skin may react to certain adhesives. Always choose your fixation method based on the patient’s skin type.
  3. If the dressing adheres to the wound, it can usually be removed more easily after first moistening it with shower water or saline.

Small adjustments. Less leakage. Fewer dressing changes.

It’s not always that more time is needed. Sometimes the right knowledge is sufficient.

In this short practical session, you’ll learn simple techniques to improve dressing performance and reduce unnecessary dressing changes.
